Flight BA283 LHRLAX

November 9, 2010

We chase the sun towards Los Angeles
like troopers.
equipped with headphones
laptops, screens, eye masks, and complementary facial kits

The 747 flies windows shut
(souls need to be transported in darkness)
We bring our night with us
unaware (or maybe aware)
That there’s enough night where we’re going

“we bring our night with us” like this!
I like how you shift here from what is seen (and every flyer can relate to this) to what you think and feel..nicely done anton
may think of this poem the next time i’m boarding a plane..

p.s. thanks for your honest comment on my poem – wrote a reply on my blog..but i could’ve told before posting that it wouldn’t be one of your favorites..so i wasn’t that surprised..

nice. i too like the shift in what is going on around you in the plane to what is going on inside…and even though we carry our night there will be more than enough once we get there…

Best line in a piece full of them. Pretty, pretty, Anton. Nice work.

  4. Yup, that 2nd stanza is really excellent. When you’re at your best, you top your quirkier lines/concepts w/ even quirkier lines/concepts. It really worked well in this one–a steady crescendo that mimicked the ascent of a plane.

souls need to be transported in darkness – WOW.
But the last sentence is just what it needs and more – That there’s enough night where we’re going.
