Steps taken
October 16, 2010
There is
a different kind of catharsis
to be found:
the perfect storm
in the smallest teacup and
the delusion
that something has happened, maybe,
at least one step taken?
NO STEP TAKEN!
Today.
no step taken
the next day.
when you return
to the Chair and
a smile that does not touch your eyes
the Wellingtons of your dreams
leak with the need of your rent
and the Amex bill and the champagne
you ordered in
a small trendy booth in a bar
with some girl
who ended the night
with a handshake
The final stanza is very, very strong work–wonderfully visual, a excellent balance of cleverness (can we say “puckish”?) and disappointment without straying off too much in the direction of either.
i agree…i lik ethe last stnaza…you pop us with much in so few yet paint an icredible picture….only a handshake…the dice are not rolling your way…smiles. nice one shot.
I really enjoyed this and loved….
‘the perfect storm

the delusion
that something has happened,’
-Wonderful!
“the Wellingtons of your dreams
leak with the need of your rent”
Nice! A dandy One Shot, Anton!
i love the line with the wellingtons and how you give the disappointment a face with your poem by using images everyone can relate to one or the other way
did i already say it? i’m a fan of your writing
I loved this!

Great writing..

Excellent capture of the press of reality weighing down when everything is dumped out into the fluorescent glare of Monday morning and the knowledge that the bills will come due. As usual great writing. I always admire your work. Thanks, Gay @beachanny
I enjoyed it throughly.. thanks for sharing…

Excellent as I would expect, you are making me feel like I need to go back to school and learn how to write all over again.
really like it the from the perfect storm to the handshake…both stanzas different but you pull it off nicely into one complete package..bkm
Thank you everybody for the kind words. it’s highly appreciated and I’m happy you enjoy the stuff.
Definitely enjoying your stuff! Further headache down the road when you’re reminded by that Amex statement. Great writing style. Cheers
Oh, that last part was perfect. I’ve had that happen, gotten a handshake at the end of the night…sucks!
loved it and agree with all..the end was great…but unlike most i saw the handshake as a sex act for which he wanted so much more…cheers pete
Sharp superb stuff. Keep it up. 🙂
Thank you everybody for your very kind words. Weeks like the one that’s just ended, when there’s no time to click publish on anything, not to mention write, it’s good to know that people read.
